Observations On How Gas Powered Chainsaw Ended Up In Horror Movies
Though gas powered chainsaws are most commonly connected as a tool in woodworking. Its impact in addition has been felt in the motion picture business, most notably affecting the horror genre.
The gas powered chainsaws along with the horror genre may meet the criteria as a match made in heaven. However these two forces did not really come together until the 1960's. Precisely what made this movie so profitable in this writer's opinion is due to two large things. That combination consisted of a truly terrifying weapon and a distinctly creepy villain. Up until this point the weapon of choice in horror films was the knife. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre unveiled millions of people into another prohibited use for the chainsaw. In comparison to a knife the gas powered chain saw is large loud and a lot more scary than a mere butcher knife. I could almost hear that buzzing sound and smell gasoline in the air when writing this and that sound began to take fear to a different degree. Up until this point we had usually associated that sound with cutting down trees now it took on some other meaning. Before, the only people who had something to dread from the chainsaw were the operator and the tree. Now envision being chased by a madman and hearing that sound all of us may link to the chainsaw is truly frightening. Secondly, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre effectually created a distinctly daunting villain with distinctly scary name, Leatherface. Leatherface was not your standard movie villain. His character was loosely based off an actual serial killer Ed Gein, and even he happened to be a rather big man wielding a rather large chainsaw wearing a face mask composed of human flesh. The Chainsaw virtually took the term slasher films to a brand new gas operated level. Although the movie only incorporated one scene depicting the gruesome violence and terror wherein the chainsaw is used to cut something aside from wood, and that other something was human flesh, one scene happened to be adequate. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre spawned multiple sequels as well as began a relationship that indelibly connected the gas powered chainsaws to the horror genre.
