Gliding above the undulating plains that host Africa's ultimate wildlife retreat, the scene beneath is spectacular. Decorating the vast plains are plain hills scantly vegetated exposing the crimson surroundings. In a flash, a massive herd of Zebras emerge and through my window seat I count possibly hundreds of them grazing gracefully beneath the morning glare.
It was an edifying 45 min flight from Nairobi, I think to myself as we are ushered in to a four wheel land-rover to take us to Cottars camp. Located in beautiful hills on a game concession adjoining the Serengeti and the Masai Mara, the area all-around the camp provides comfort in addition to plenty of wildlife presenting the feel of an exclusive game park.

With the numerous activities before us, I understand exactly why we required a minimum of 3 days in this fabulous exclusive camp.
At noon we head out in 2 cars in search for the big five and shortly we come across a pride of lions wallowing under thickets of bush away from the sweltering mid day sunshine. Right after a brief stop to photograph the family, we proceed in the unmarked path towards the river meandering through overgrown thickets. Lastly we come to the shores of the river and true to the Masai Mara safari exploration; here before our eyes is a herd of Elephant bulls, watering. Across the river we see a sizable herd of Buffalo's with youngsters grazing openly under the wooded acacia trees. Amongst them are many gazelles and two giraffes. Our camcorders roll endlessly as we immerse in the events.
Time flies fast and in awhile we rollback to take a return tour to our camp having had an intense first ride. The guide heightens our anticipation when he outlines that after the evening meal, our venture continues with a night game drive. An evening game drive by all means is more superior since that is when you can discover the predators focused and in a hunting mode while lots of the nocturnal beasts like the hippo arise to graze albeit the hazards in the African jungle.
